John Mott

Who is John (Jack) Mott?

Let’s first address the name. I was born John. Apparently, Jack is a long-held nickname for John dating back to the 17th century, but my parents instilled this cognomen when I was just a baby. Now, friends, family, and those who know me call me Jack.

Since you are getting to know me through this brief bio, feel free to call me Jack.

I am not your stereotypical lawyer – I was not raised with parents who were attorneys. In fact, my father is an electrician and my mom graduated from college as an artist. It wasn’t until many years later that she completed paralegal school and worked as a full-time paralegal. This was around the same time that I began working in the legal field. But we will get to that.

I was born in Wilmington, NC while my dad was stationed at Fort Bragg as a part of the 82nd Airborne. Go Tarheels! Unfortunately, my parents split while I was still rather young. My dad moved back to NY where he was from, and my mom brought me with her to MI, where she was from. I would spend the next 15 – 17 years splitting time between the two of them. It was not the easiest but it certainly was not the hardest, and as always, I made the best of every situation. Sadly, my mom passed away in 2012 from her fourth battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She always told me to find the silver lining in every situation, so that is how I keep her memory alive.

Since moving to MI as a child, I lived in Harper Woods, Sterling Heights, and Shelby Township where I ultimately graduated from Eisenhower Highschool. From there I pursued an engineering degree at Oakland University but quickly realized math was not my forte. After spending almost a decade in the service/restaurant industry, I decided to make a change and took a job at a law firm in in Royal Oak as an ordinary clerk. While working for this firm and still in undergrad, I personally wrote a Motion to Dismiss that was granted. This is when I knew I needed to pursue this path. I went on to graduate from OU with a bachelor’s degree in Integrative Studies. I enjoyed working in the legal field so much that I began classes at Thomas M. Cooley Law School following my graduation. In the fall of 2018, I was admitted to practice law as a licensed attorney. All my hard work had paid off. By this time, I had been working in the legal field in some way, shape or form since 2008, only difference now is I didn’t have to wait in the non-attorney lines in Court and could bypass security (for the most part).

For the last five years I have worked for multiple firms practicing in a wide swath of areas, including but not limited to criminal defense, driver’s license appeals, insurance defense, personal injury, civil rights violations, property disputes, wrongful termination, and wrongful death. All of this experience has not only given me priceless knowledge, but it has also afforded me the opportunity to realize that my preferred niche is criminal defense and driver’s license work. I enjoy assisting clients who are attempting to restore their lives rather than beat an insurance company via technicalities. This is what Jeffrey Randa & Assoc. focus on and a major reason why I am privileged to be a part of this amazing legal team, and further why I believe to have finally found my “legal home.” Additionally, I am licensed to practice within the State of Michigan, as well as the Federal United States Eastern District Court of Michigan in Detroit.

Aside from the legal mumbo-jumbo, I am happily married to my wife, April, of 9 nine years. She is the backbone to my success and has supported me throughout my journey. Together we have two young children, as well as two dogs. We recently moved to the water in Harrison Township where we love spending our time enjoying the beautiful MI weather (whenever it is not winter!), fishing, and watching the craziness that often floats by our dock.

If you have taken enough time to read this far, I hope you will spend additional time perusing our site and seriously consider retaining Jeffrey Randa & Associates to represent you in your criminal matter or pursuit to regain driving privileges.
